Loading RAW images with PSP
Step 1
Select OPEN, find the file you are looking for, example: Dirt1.raw. A screen like below will appear.
If the size of the RAW file is 65536 bytes, then the height and width should be 256. If the size is 4096 bytes, then the height and width should be 64.
Once the image is loaded, it will be in black & white.
Step 2
Select "colors" from the menu bar, and choose "load palette". A screen like below will appear.
Be sure that the "maintain indexes" box is checked. Select the palette file with the same name as the RAW image you are editing and press OPEN. If you do not have the matching palette file, refer to Step 5 in the truck making instructions for converting the *.act palette to *.pal format.
Step 3
Select "colors" from the menu and choose "increase color depth". Select the highest setting possible.
Step 4
Paint it. One note of caution, do not change the size of the image otherwise you will definitely get bad results when you use it on a truck.
Step 5
Select "colors" from the menu and choose "decrease color depth". Select 256 colors, this is VERY important.
Step 6
Save the image as a raw file type.
Step 7
Save the palette as a pal file type.
Step 8
Convert the palette from PAL format to ACT format for use in the game. Refer to Step 5 in the truck making instructions for help with converting palettes.
Step 9
The image is now ready for use on a truck. The raw, pal and act files should all be the same name, otherwise the game will not show the images in the correct colors.
