PathCopy

Installing

Download pathc400.zip and unzip it to a temporary folder. Right click PATHCOPY.INF and choose install.

The installer is not a typical program installer. It just configures windows so it can copy file names. A progress bar will appear that looks something like this:

After installation is complete (it takes just a few seconds), you may delete the downloaded/temp files.

How to use it

One file

Right click any file and you will now see a Copy Path option in the context menu. There are a few options, but for now choose Copy Long Name.

Open notepad or any word processing-type program. In notepad, you can right click and choose paste. Other programs require you to use Edit > Paste from the menu. Most programs allow you to just type Ctrl+V.

The file name will be pasted into your program.

Multiple files

You can also do many files at once. Highlight one file, hold the shift key, and click another file. Everything from beginning to end should be selected. You can also usually select all files by holdting the ctrl key and pressing A (Ctrl+A). You can also select individual files by holding ctrl and clicking with the mouse. When you've selected what you want, right click and choose Copy Path > Copy Long Name.

Paste into notepad.

All file names appear.

File lists

This is especially helpful when you do a lot of common file work. For example, with mp3 file lists.

The context menu may look different depending on the types of files you highlight. Copy Path should always be available.

Paste into notepad (or your favorite text editor - even mail programs or message forums).

You now have your file list quick and easy.

You can also copy the whole path, not just the file name. You can also configure PathCopy to do paths so the slash are internet friendly. Experiment and play around.

To uninstall PathCopy, goto add/remove programs in the control panel and choose Ninotech Path Copy.
